Anticipation – A Little Taste of Spring Fever
The overpowering sound of construction has finally ceased. In its place are the peaceful laps of the waves crashing agains the rocky edges of land. It competes with the sound of Chinese excitement as a family sits next to me, laughing and enjoying today’s beauty. I hear a few seagulls talking to each other. The sun’s rays are kind today. They warm my soul and cause me to smile. Its reflection on the harbor creates diamond caps on the baby waves. Every ounce of me wants to jump from the dock. I want to be enveloped in the arms of the water. I wan to bob from loud ocean air to the murky silence of the world underneath. I want to explore its mystery .
Stirring from my daydreams, I see steeples across the harbor. They transport me to downtown Louisville where beautiful steeples peak from between buildings tightening the Bible belt notch on middle Kentucky’s belt. To my left is South Boston, covered in cranes. It transports me to Austin. Cranes were staple skyline adornment when I lived there, a symbol of growth. My eyes are most drawn to the landscape right in front of me – Boston. The clock tower, harbors, skyscrapers, some of the oldest buildings in America next to Art Deco and modern glassy towers. It’s a beautiful city, and I am so excited to experience my first summer here. If this peace that a sunny day like today brings is any indicator of summer’s joys, May can’t get here soon enough!
