Gratitude – Day 4
It’s Thanksgiving Eve, and it’s been a busy day, so I’m going to keep this one short. As I sit here with my entire family and my love, I’m most thankful for laughter. To put it simply, my family loves to laugh. We look for any excuse to do it. We make fun of each other, we dance silly, we make stupid jokes, and we watch Ridiculousness.
I love the dynamite sound of my mother’s cackle. I like how my dad crosses his arms and makes one loud “ha” sound. When my sister finds something particularly hilarious, she’ll sometimes fall to ground with hysterics. Sometimes she even snorts. I know Chris really finds something funny, when hear a higher-pitched staccato sound. Inevitably, when I hear any of these sounds I catch the bug and nearly bust my family’s eardrums. More times than not, you can hear giggles in my house.
I’m thankful that this need for mirth has endured, even after 11 years of not living at home. Laughter keeps me young. It makes my soul happy and peaceful. When I’m lonely, it makes me feel closer to home. But for now, I’m thankful that I have the opportunity to howl with the ones I love.
