The Life Jar
Hello there strangers. A year has passed since I’ve written anything original in this space. Since then, I’ve seen two different continents, become certified in barre and started teaching regularly, finished at least one new book every month, quit my job and visited 15 states.
For me, travel leads to inconsistency, so this year, I’ve also been building a major to-do list including dreams, goals, things I’ve wanted to do for my whole life. As I approach my 33rd birthday, I’ve decided to move from words to actions because I can talk all day about things I do, but what’s the point if I don’t do anything about them?
Over the past year, two women have really inspired me: Hailey Heishman and Brit Morin. Brit is the founder of Brit + Co and started a concept called “Give It a Week” on Instagram. She tries pretty much anything for a week and shares the process with her followers. Seeing how she grows and the experiences she receives from this activity is compelling. Hailey is a writer, yoga teacher and overall badass in Louisville, KY. She made a “fun” jar where everyday for a month, she would draw slip out of her jar and bring intentional fun into her day. These ideas are brilliant and helped propel me to do something like this for myself.
And so, everyone, meet my Jar of Life.
This mason jar is full of over 40 slips containing all of the things I’ve wanted to do over the past few years. Some of them are silly, some are serious. Some will take time. Some can be completed in a day. The intention is to transform my words to actions because I believe actions equal inspiration. With this inspiration brings life and drive to do more.
I’ll be drawing a new slip on Sundays (every week or every other week, depending on the activity). Once I draw a slip, I’ll tell you a little bit more about the activity and why it was added to the jar. Then I’ll let you know my progress and finally a summary of the experience. You can also follow along on Instagram, where I’ll be showing a daily view of my progress and experiences through stories, feed and maybe even IGTV.
As I have knew ideas, express new dreams out loud, grow and change, I’ll add more slips to the jar. The intention is that it won’t dry out and continue to instigate action in my life.
I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me and to share the process with you and hopefully, inspire other talkers (like myself) to transform into doers.
If this process hits a chord with you, join me! We can travel this unknown path together.
Be brave. Be strong. Transform those dreams into life.
